Untitled
Time stood still on Friday.
That was the day that we were told Amelia has PHPV, a congenital eye disease that has left her with little, if any, vision in her right eye.
Time stood still.
Surgery will be performed in the few next weeks. Surgery on the beautiful brown eye of my precious baby. Surgery that may or may not improve her chances of ever having useful vision in that eye. Yet, surgery that we have to try because if we don't, we'll never know.
Time stood still.
After surgery, Amelia will begin an aggressive regimen of eye patching and glasses. She will most likely have to wear a patch on her "good" eye for 6-8 hours each day in the hopes that her "bad" eye will regain some vision. She will also wear glasses from now on. This therapy may or may not improve her chances of ever having useful vision in her right eye.
Time stood still.
Children with PHPV are predisposed to glaucoma and cataracts, things we will have to watch for over the years. She will also be at risk for retina detachment.
Time stood still.
We don't know what to expect. We don't know whether Amelia will ever see more than light and shadows in her right eye. We don't know if she'll have glaucoma, develop a cataract, or experience any other complication. We don't know so many things.
But we do know this: we will do whatever it takes to ensure that Amelia has the best treatment and the best chance for usable vision. We know that Amelia is loved by and being prayed for by so many people. We know that she is exactly the way God intended her to be, that she is fearfully and wonderfully made, and that God has a plan for her that is much bigger than this eye disease.
As we await our consult at Arkansas Children's Hospital, please pray for the following specific things:
--That her lens will not have to removed during surgery
--That we will make the best choices for her treatment
--That we will have peace through this process
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful. I know that full well.
Psalm 130:14

You know we are praying...love you, Mer and that precious baby girl.
Oh Meredith, we love you guys and your precious family. I am in prayer now...
Meredith,
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. I hope that our journey with PHPV was a help to you. Though you have lots of questions and unknowns, I hope you remember that God makes NO mistakes and that there are others out there who have and are going through the same thing you are. I hope you will visit my blog again and if you have any questions I will be happy to answer them :) I will be praying for your little girl and your family.
Oh Meredith, we will be praying.
I will definitely have Amelia in my prayers. I know it's terrible waiting around and not knowing what is going to happen, but God has her in good hands.
Meredith, Cortney told me about Amelia and said to read your post. She is in my prayers and will continue to be.
I'll be keeping you and your sweet baby girl in my daily prayers.
Oh Meredith, we will be praying for Amelia each day and our thoughts are with you. Had no idea! You are right - God is bigger than this disease and He loves Amelia more than anyone. May you stay strong in faith and feel God's presence in all this and see His hand at work in Amelia and your family. Love you guys!
I'm so sorry to hear about this. Clay and I will be praying that the surgery goes well and that God directs her healing. Will keep checking back for updates.
We are praying for you guys.
Meredith...
Matt & I are praying for sweet Amelia & your family.
Kristi
Will keep sweet baby Amelia in my prayers.
Oh Mer, we will be praying for your sweet baby girl and for you guys as you make decisions.
We will be praying for sweet Amelia. (and we have her on the prayer list at church) I know it is tough on you, but keep the FAITH. God has special plans for that precious girl "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 If you need anything at all please let me know.
Wanted to let you know that I have been and will continue to be praying for Amelia. Especially on Monday for the procedure!
